About the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccinations(PDF/395KB)

Tottori City is making preparations so that all citizens who wish to get vaccinated can receive vaccinations in a smooth process. We will do everything in our power to ensure that you can get the vaccine soon and safely. From now on, we will provide up to date information on the vaccination process, the vaccine's safety and risks, etc. Please note that the Pfizer vaccine is currently used at the vaccination sites run by Tottori City.

Vaccination Guidelines

To ensure a smooth process, please watch the following video explaining the reservation procedures and the process on the day of your vaccination.

Who is eligible?

All residents of Tottori City (in principle, you can get vaccinated in the city/town where you are registered)                        

✳The vaccination is not compulsory.

How many shots will people receive?

Everyone will receive 2 doses.

(Warning) You will have to receive the same vaccine twice. After getting the first dose, a fixed time period has to pass before you can get the second dose.

  1. As soon as the vaccination appointment program starts, the vaccination ticket will be send to your home address via post.
  2. If you wish to get vaccinated, you have to make an appointment in advance.
  3. Please follow the procedures below to make a reservation for the vaccination:

For individual vaccinations: make a reservation directly at a medical institution via phone (use the following list to make a reservation “List of Medical Institutions (Japanese) PDF/801KB)”). If speaking in Japanese is difficult for you, please get vaccinated at a mass vaccination site.

For mass vaccinations, please make a reservation, via either:

  1. online reservation at the official homepage (only available in Japanese)
    or
  2. phone reservation through the Tottori City Corona Vaccination Information Hotline
    (Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean support available)

 For vaccinations at a mass vaccination site, please make a reservation via phone or web as explained in the table below.

※If you have problems making a reservation, please visit the reception of the “Insurance and Medical Care Department” at the “Tottori City Health Center” (Tottori City, Tomiyasu 2-138-4). Please bring your vaccination ticket with you!

When will vaccinations start?

Vaccinations in all areas of Tottori City will start at the end of May. Please check the table below for information on the vaccination order.

In what order will vaccinations be offered to various groups?

The vaccine shipment schedule for Japan has been partially decided, but at present the vaccine quantity that can be secured is limited. For this reason, the below schedule might change according to the vaccine procurement situation.

We ensure you that vaccinations will be provided for anyone who wants to get vaccinated, so please stay calm and wait until it is your turn.

Vaccinations will be performed in the order decided by the Japanese government.

Group 1

Who? 

Those who are 65 years old or older (born on April 1st 1957 or earlier)

When?

For the whole Tottori City area

・Vaccination at mass vaccination sites: Started on May 22nd (Sat).

・Vaccination at medical institutions: Started on May 24th (Mon).

(In Saji, vaccination for only those who are 75 years old or older started in late April.)

Group 2

Who? 

Those who are 60 to 64 years old (born on between April 2nd 1957 and April 1st 1962)

When?

For the whole Tottori City area

・Vaccination at mass vaccination sites: Started on June 30th.

・Vaccination at medical institutions: Started on June 30th.

Group 3

Who? 

Those with underlying diseases and those working for senior care facilities, etc.
✳Apart from senior citizens, people with one of the underlying diseases below are also applicable:
1. Those born after April 1st 1957, who have been hospitalized or visiting the hospital due to one of the following (or similar) illnesses:

  • chronic illness of respiratory organs
  • chronic heart disease (including high blood pressure (hypertension))
  • chronic kidney disease
  • chronic liver disease (such as liver cirrhosis)
  • Those suffering from diabetes who undergo treatment with insulin or other medication, and those suffering from diabetes additionally to other diseases.
  • Blood diseases (excluding iron deficiency anemia)
  • Those suffering from diseases that impair the functions of their immune system (including malignant tumors under treatment).
  • Those receiving treatment that reduces the functions of the immune system, such as steroids.
  • Neurological and neuromuscular diseases associated with immune abnormalities
  • Those with decreased body functions due to neurological or neuromuscular diseases (including breathing disorders).
  • Chromosome abnormalities
  • Those with severe mental and physical disabilities (those with severe physical restraints additional to severe mental disabilities).
  • Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS)
  • Severe mental disorder (those hospitalized due to receiving treatment for a mental disease, those holding a mental disability certificate, and those falling under the category of “severe and continuous” in independence support medical care (psychiatric hospital care)) or mentally disabled (holding a rehabilitation certificate).

2. Those born after April 1st 1957 with a BMI of 30 or more (obese individuals).
The BMI is an international Body Mass Index to measure degrees of overweight and obesity, and is calculated by dividing your body weight (in kg) by your height (in m), and dividing the answer by your height again.
✳Examples of BMI 30: a height of 170cm and weight of 87kg or more, or a height of 160cm and weight of 77kg or more.

・Vaccination at mass vaccination sites: Started on July 12th.

・Vaccination at medical institutions: Started on July 12th.

Group 4

Who?

School students who are 12 years old or older, who are attending elementary, junior high, or senior high school

When?

For the whole Tottori City area

・Vaccination at mass vaccination sites: Started from July 19th.

・Vaccination at medical institutions: Started from July 19th.

Group 5

Who?

Those who are 50 to 59 years old (born on between April 2nd 1962 and April 1st 1972)

When?

For the whole Tottori City area

・Vaccination at mass vaccination sites: Started on July 26th.

・Vaccination at medical institutions: Started on July 26th.

Group 6

Who?

Those who are 49 years old or younger (born on April 2nd 1972 or later)

Note: Excluding those with underlying conditions, those who work for senior care facilities etc., and school students at elementary, junior, and senior high schools.

When?

For the whole Tottori City area

・Vaccination at mass vaccination sites: Started on August 10th.

・Vaccination at medical institutions: Started on August 10th.

Adverse Reactions

Common adverse reactions include pain in the injected area, headache, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, chills, and fever. Rare and serious adverse reactions include shock and anaphylaxis.

If you notice any worrisome symptoms after vaccination, please consult the medical institution where you received the vaccination or your family doctor.

Protect Human Rights

Vaccinations will under no circumstances be performed without consent.

For the COVID-19 vaccination, the consent of the person in question is necessary. Only after information on the infectious virus prevention as well as risks is provided, and only if the person in questions then chooses to give their consent, the vaccination performed. Do not pressure people around you to get vaccinated, and do not discriminate against people who choose not to get vaccinated.

Be aware of frauds

(Warning) Be careful of fraudulent schemes related to the vaccinations!

Individuals pretending to be City Hall or Health Care Center employees are making fraud phone calls asking for money in exchange for COVID-19 vaccinations.

You do NOT have to pay money to get vaccinated.

You do NOT have to pay for information about vaccination appointments or sites.

If you receive any suspicious calls, please consult with the police station closest to you home.
